Is loss of smell or taste symptom of covid-19?

Loss of smell (anosmia) or taste has been included to the list of symptoms of Covid-19 to watch out for. A large number of people who have the coronavirus infection tend to have this symptom early on during the disease.

Loss of smell or taste associated with covid-19 tends to occur suddenly and at a severe extent, unlike those caused by the flu and common cold. It isn't unlikely that someone with covid-19 will have absolute loss or a significant loss of smell or taste.

Someone who has lost sense of smell may not even have a stuffy nose.

Taste or smell may come back after 1 to 2 weeks, but there are cases that last for several months and there is a possibility that the loss of smell or taste may become permanent.
