How to Build Self-Esteem and Confidence in School

School holds a crucial place in a child's development such that the phrase "school is considered as the second  home for children" couldn't be more accurate.

Self esteem and confidence are built in children through experiences.

It is important for students to be able to hone their ability and skills in order to find strength and recognition in their talents. That's where extracurricular activities come into play. You see, school is not just for academic learning, it can also be a setting for them to learn things they want like singing, dancing, drawing, painting, sports, and others. This is made possible by clubs and group activities that encourage them to participate and meet other students who share similar passion.

Another source of valuable experience is school competition as it gives students the opportunity to make use of their skills, although, when it comes to self-esteem and confidence, it isn't just the winners who can take home a confidence boost. In fact, ranking alone may not be a predictor of a child's confidence level. Trying, taking risks for the sake of growth is what matters. Seeing failure as just an inevitable risk is worth noting. In this light, parents comparing their children to others damages their child's self-worth since such cases only highlight that their parents' affection is conditional.

Since we grow as a social being, the social climate of the school plays a key role. An accepting and empowering condition in a school setting is imperative to let children grow. On the other hand, bulling and discrimination can markedly impact a child's self esteem and significantly increase their risk of behavioral problem and substance abuse. In that regard, the school you choose your kids to enroll to can make or break your child.

Free from the bounds of their parents, children are encouraged to be autonomous at school. It’s a place where they learn, make friends, develop their talents, and create meaningful memories which they will remember for the rest of their lives.
