A good number of people stays clear from mineral oil when it comes to skincare and personal care products since it is derived from petroleum and does have a tendency to clog pores. Nonetheless, mineral oil remains an ingredient in many cosmetic products in today's landscape.

Does mineral oil deserve to be demonized?

Mineral oil isn't all that bad. It has advantages and disadvantages in skincare. First of all, mineral oil does have substantial moisturizing effect and can even be used by individuals with sensitive skin type. In fact, it has low likelihood of causing an allergic reaction that it can be safely used by babies to seal in moisture.

On the other hand, mineral oil is not advisable for people with acne-prone skin as it can lead to pore clogging and breakouts. Furthermore, it can aggravate blackheads and whiteheads. For those reasons and considering that a large number of people have acne problem at some point, mineral oil may seem like an unappealing type of oil.

Another important thing to consider is how mineral oil stands when compared to its' competition. Oils like sunflower oil and sweet almond oil are not only non-comedogenic, but also has a range of skincare benefits, thus they have huge followings and users. However, when it comes to price point, mineral oil does have significant edge as it is a cost effective alternative.
