Favipiravir is an broad-spectrum antiviral drug that originated in Japan. It is used to treat influenza and works by preventing viral replication through inhibition of RNA polymerase. Favipiravir is effective against influenza A, B, and C, but is only approved for treatment of severe form of influenza in Japan.
