Chlorine is commonly used in water treatment facilities to disinfect sourced water in order to eradicate disease causing germs. Although the presence of chlorine in tap waters may linger as it is distributed by pipe system to households, it isn't all that bad. Chlorine in tap water ensures that it remains free of harmful germs that could otherwise contaminate the water as it leaves the decontamination facility into pipelines.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), drinking water containing up to 4mg/L chlorine does not pose danger to a person's health and is thus safe for consumption.

Still, there are chlorine filters available in the market that can be directly attached to faucets to remove chlorine.
