If we look into the basic premise of losing weight, that is, one has to burn more calories than what is consumed, then eating an apple may not seem all that significant in slimming down because it technically contains calories after all.
That is, until we look into the composition of an apple. Apple fruits are high in fiber and water which is filling, thus making one less likely to crave. It’s a far better alternative to calorie laden snacks.
A medium sized apple (182 g) contains about 95 calories, 4 g fiber, 86% water, flavonoids, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. What’s more, one gets all these benefits with just 0.2 g of fats.
Study reveals that regular consumption of fruits does help people lose weight. This research looks into the effect of eating either apples, pears, and oat cookies 3 times a day among overweight volunteers who have high cholesterol levels. They’ve found out that participants who have eaten either apple or pears on a daily basis for 12 weeks have lost an average of 1.22 kg whereas those that ate oatmeal cookies together with their current diet did not lose weight.
Furthermore, volunteers with supplemental apple or pear on their diet considerably have lower blood sugar levels than their counterparts on oatmeal cookies.
Now, that is promising, considering that they just included fruit into their diet without any weight loss dietary regimen nor exercise program included, but they still managed to lose weight.
In conclusion, a habit of eating apples everyday really does help lose weight.
