Does Milk and Vitamins make you grow Tall?

How high you can literally stand is a big deal to most people. Why wouldn't it be when it's part of one's self-image?

It seems there is a common perception that drinking milk equates tall stature. In fact, drinking milk every night is a common ritual among both children and adults for a variety of benefits. Have you ever question the popular notion: can you actually grow tall when you drink milk every night?

I hate to pop this bubble but your height is something you inherit from your parents like many other things like facial feature and body structure. The maximum height you can reach is determined predominantly by your genetics. Your height is not something that's fish out from a glass of milk.

But,  does not mean that drinking milk and eating nutritious foods is not important. Remember, your body needs building blocks to construct itself. Although drinking milk can't tamper with your genes, you do want to reach the maximum height allowed by your genetics, right?

You Need Vitamins and Nutrients to Grow

A well balanced diet is important for growth. Teenager during their growth spurt years needs calories, vitamins and minerals to fuel their drastic growth spurt.

Milk is a rich source of protein, fats, calcium, vitamin B12, riboflavin, phosphorus and other essential nutrients.

Milk and IGF 1

Research reveals that drinking milk stimulates the body to increase it's natural production of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF 1 aka. somatomedin C), a hormone that stimulates growth of cells and tissues in the body.

IGF 1 is predominantly produced by the liver. It's levels increases during growth spurt years. Consuming protein rich foods also stimulates it's production.

What? So you still need nutrients to grow taller?

Yes. Diet plays an important role which can not be downplayed.

For example, if the maximum height permitted by your genetics is 5 feet tall, then, drinking milk and eating nutritious foods will help you reach it. Although being a 5 footer isn't considered tall in our society's standards, at least you're taller than what you would have been had you not drunk your milk or took your vitamins.
