1. High blood pressure

Coffee contains caffeine, a potent stimulant that causes a temporary increase in blood pressure. Now, if your blood pressure is already high, would you like it to get higher?

Excessive pressure weakens the artery and there's only as much pressure a blood vessel can take before it breaks. If that blood vessel happens to be the artery supplying your heart or brain with oxygen, it'll be fatal. Prolong high blood pressure can also damage important organs like the kidneys and the eyes.

2. Heartburn

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, also known as heartburn) is a health problem in which stomach acid climbs up the esophagus  resulting to a burning sensation or chestpain.

Coffee stimulates gastric acid secretion. Drinking coffee can aggravate heartburn especially if you drink it in an empty stomach. This can be really painful. Drinking coffee can also aggravate other gastrointestinal diseases like gastritis and stomach ulcer.

3. Insomnia

If you have trouble sleeping, them taking a stimulant like coffee can make it worse. Avoid drinking coffee especially past lunchtime.

4. Adrenal problem

Our day to day activity and sleep cycle is controlled by various processes such as hormone secretion. Normally, the adrenal gland (which is located on top of each kidneys) produce stress hormones cortisol and aldosterone. These hormones stimulates the body, preparing it for activity by increasing blood pressure, heart rate, and blood sugar level.

People afflicted with certain diseases like cushing syndrome have abnormally high levels of cortisol. Coffee can aggravate this condition by further increasing the cortisol level.

Some of the symptoms of high cortisol level includes weight gain, mood swings, anxiety, insomnia, high blood pressure, palpitation, and lowered immunity.

5. Thyroid problem

Hyperthyroidism is a disease of the thyroid gland in which there is an over secretion of thyroid hormone leading to an increase in metabolism. It's symptoms includes weight loss, nervousness, palpitation, tremors, and diarrhea. These symptoms can be aggraved by the stimulating effects of caffeine.

Coffee don't go along well with thyroid hormone. Taking thyroid hormone within an hour of consuming coffee decreases the absorption of the medicine.

Note: Each person can react differently with coffee. It is important that you know how your body reacts with it.
