The recent emergence of a new strain of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) responsible for the development of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) had many questioning mainstream testing method's efficacy. While the mutations in the genetic code of the virus has resulted to a more contagious strain, experts guarantee that the PCR (polymerase chain reaction) employed in testing can accurately detect such mutations. PCR testing detects signature proteins located at the spike of the coronavirus.
