Crystallization or the hardening of uric acid into prickly urates has serios implication to the tissues and organs it gets deposited to. The crystallization of uric acids to form monosodium urate is facilitated by both high uric acid concentration and pH level.

Uric acid level beyond 8mg per dL and pH of 7 and above forms a conducive environment for uric acid crystallization.
